On the 19th, it was reported by the Datang Group that the solar photovoltaic and solar thermal hybrid power generation demonstration base, located in the desert area of Hami City in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has officially begun operations, filling a gap in the verification of solar photovoltaic and solar thermal coordinated development technology in China's desert climate zone.A demonstration base is a facility that conducts actual operational tests and verifications for specific projects, providing scientific evidence and guidance for the development of related fields.

The newly operational demonstration base utilises the Datang Shichengzi 1 million kilowatt (kW) "solar + solar thermal" hybrid clean energy project and is divided into demonstration areas for advanced solar power, conventional solar power, and solar photovoltaic-solar thermal power generation. The overall demonstration base can establish more than 100 testing plans by using various types of modules, frames, inverters, and 46 heat collection circuits, along with 14 high-precision meteorological observation devices.

Wang Tao, head of the demonstration base at Datang's Technology and Economics Research Institute, stated, "The entire system can verify the impact of extreme weather on equipment performance and optimise the selection and design of solar photovoltaic and solar thermal equipment. It's as if a 'testing ground' has been established in an extreme outdoor environment, allowing various power generation facilities to undergo validation under diverse weather and seasonal conditions."
